MCB & Distribution Boards
"Capital" MCB provides protection against thermal overload and magnetic short circuit. Housed in hi-tech glass fibre filled polyester and ensures high electrical-mechanical properties.

An over-current protection device should be capable of making & breaking any over-current upto & including the prospective short circuit current at the point where the device is installed. When this is greater than 6 KA, the MCB should be provided with suitable back-up protection in the form of HRC fuse. MCB is normally not effected by surge current caused by switching on of filament or fluorescent lights & derating is not necessary when used in lighting circuits. MCB should not be used for complete protection of a motor, yet it can provide adequate protection for cables leading upto the motor, Correct selection of MCB will depend on the starting characteristics of the motor.
